You can operate the LiDE 400 from the five-button control panel on the front edge or from the software bundle on the CD-ROM included in the box. Like most scanners, this software provides a much more flexible set of scan configurations and destination options than the control panel, regardless of size and type.

The scanner lacks support for wireless or wired networks, mobile connectivity, mobile apps, and remote scanning, although you can send scans to the cloud by having the LiDE 400 software save them in a folder synced with the cloud site. Otherwise, the scanning device must have a connection to the internet, or at best a network, to support many features of mobile and remote scanning. A direct USB connection doesn’t provide that.
