Canon PIXMA G4200 Series Reviews Printers– Generally speaking, I’m not a big fan of inkjet printers with the exception of using them for photo printing, in which case they are excelling. However, companies producing inkjet printers have over the years blew their users with overpriced ink. Maybe an inkjet printer with reasonably-priced inks might change my position a little, so it was with the idea that I decided to order this printer and put it in use.First impressions were not as positive in terms of the construction quality. It just doesn’t feel like a very suitable printer. It is relatively light in weight and the trays and lids feel fragile. What was different from other inkjet printers I’ve owned is that instead of small ink cartridges to be snapped into the printer, there were 4 quite large bottles of ink that were poured into the printer. This was exciting. The cost of a new set of bottles of ink cost about the same price as what I used to pay for a set of small ink cartridges for my older printers. Things started to look more positive because the consumer goods cost will be much cheaper over the long run.
Setup went smoothly for me, but you should follow the steps carefully or you might get a little confused. It’s not intuitive. However, I had no problems and could connect the printer to my network and download the necessary software and drivers from the Canon website to my laptop. I also downloaded the app for my IPhone from an App store. A somewhat disturbing problem is that the Canon site is not safe and you are addressed to an http: address instead of an https: address. Come with Canon, come with the program and serve safe pages.
The printer prints quite quietly in my opinion. However, the paper that is loaded from the tray in the printer is lumpy and high. When printing begins, the actual Udskriftsdel is quiet. It’s not the fastest inkjet printer I’ve used, but it didn’t seem to me either slow. Scanning works pretty easy and I could print from my iPhone and MacBook laptop with no problems. It’s just that sparebesparelser isn’t intuitive.
I’ve got an error pop up several times during the first few days when I used the printer. It had something to do with not specifying a default paper size for paper delivery. I also had a mysterious error that heralded me to a paper jam, but there was no paper jam. After reviewing these errors I have not had any since then so far.
I like the ink tank levels are very easy to see without having to open the printer or look at a printer tool on my Computer or IPhone. The printer hasn’t disappointed so far and I am looking to get my photo paper delivered so I can start printing some photos.
Something I hate completely about the printer is the cheesy screen. That is awful. Very hard to read as it is so small and the messages slowly roll over the screen.
It seems to me that the printer has a build quality and a set of a printer that costs around $80, not $350. However, given the price of ink cartridges for most other ink cartridge printers, the much cheaper price for the bottles of ink that is used to replenish the ink containers on this printer will lead to a long-term reduction in operating costs. It will take a while to break straight, but after that time is reached, the savings will be significant if you do much printing, especially photo printing.
For Now, I’m pretty happy with the printing aspect of this all-in-one printer. I am not at all satisfied with the scanning tool and other included software. The software is absolutely unfriendly for MAC users. It looks like software from 20 years ago and is not intuitive or user-friendly.
As far as the scanning tool is concerned, it is not at all intuitive how to specify the folder you want to have your scans saved to. The Canon tool specifies two possible folders, “Images ” or “documents “, or you can add a folder you name. But it’s not at all clear where one of these folders is actually located, and you can’t navigate to where you want to add a folder. It’s not intuitive and seems PC centered (not Mac friendly.) Scanning works well so far, the print speed is sufficient for my purposes, and the print quality is very good. The lack of duplex printing is very much missed, but I can still get good use of this printer despite the shortcomings.
