Canon Pixma MG7100 Series Reviews Printers– The Pixma MG7100 has a premium design that is different from some of Canon’s printers in recent years and other design enhancements introduced last year along with its cousin, the Pixma MG6320. You control the printer’s upper front touchscreen: The 3.5-inch touchscreen contains most functions, with contextually illuminated keys displayed as needed. It has a very short learning curve. Lift this panel to access the ink cartridges instead of lifting the entire surface of the scanner, as is the case with most multifunction features. You can connect via Wi-Fi, Ethernet or USB.Paper capacity is limited: 125 sheets of plain paper in the lower cassette and 20 sheets of photo paper 4 to 6 inches or 5 to 7 inches in the photo tray are directly above it. Turn the photo tray over and you will find an optical media tray that inserts into the slot just above the output tray. The output tray itself is located just above the paper tray and opens automatically when printed or copied. There is no automatic document feeder (ADF) for scanning or copying multi-page documents, which is not unusual for a home printer, but we like it when we see it. The HP Photosmart 7520 is a competitor of equal price with ADF (and – ahem – cheaper ink).
In addition to the output tray, another front panel opens that reveals three card slots: Secure Digital, Compact Flash, and Memory Stick. You can print through any of them, as well as through Wireless Pictbridge.
The Pixma MG7100 comes with the usual range of remote printing features (email, Wi-Fi, though no NFC), and Canon has apps for both Android and iOS. The upper bearing of the scanner is A4 / letter sized with a lid that holds the telescope an inch or so to accommodate thicker materials.
Canon’s My Image Garden is the main software application used for scanning, editing, optical disc printing and image tracking, but the company also offers utilities to view desktop images and launch various printer features (scanning, copying, editing, etc.) They are especially handy if you dedicate little things to your office PC for the printer, limiting the amount of time you have to hunt through applications for the feature you need. For occasional use, they are probably exaggerated.
To get the best results from the Pixma MG7100, you need to use good photo paper, which will give you a few inches forever. But Canon could do better with the cost of ink. The Pixma MG7100 uses a hexagonal system: black, pigment black, cyan, gray, magenta and yellow. All are available in both Standard and High Yield (“XL”). In standard capacity, black pages cost about 5 cents and four-color pages cost 16.6 cents. This does not count extra photo blacks and photo grays, which contribute to minimal page volumes without a photo. XL containers are only slightly cheaper: 4.6 cents per page for black and 12.7 cents for all four colors. If you print occasionally – tickets, websites and the like – then the MG7100 has a decent cost. If you print a lot of monochrome business documents, not so much.
The production quality of the Pixma MG7100 is where it earns. The photos are superb for a $ 200 photo printer, and the color palette is beautifully balanced, neither overly warm nor cold. The text is crisp, and there is some kind of damage to the large black areas, which can usually spot any problems with the print system. No stripes, no bends, no blurred edges.
