Designed to print high-quality documents and photos, the Canon Pixma MG7700 is one of the best home all-in-one printers we have reviewed. As the flagship model in the Canon Pixma series, we have the best and fastest photo printing we’ve ever seen at reasonable ink prices and review.
The Pixma MG7700 prints impressive quality documents and photos with a print resolution of 9600 x 2400 dots per inch. Produces high quality documents with no apparent defects but at lower speeds than most. Black-and-white documents print to 9.8 ppm (ppm), while color documents are slower at 7.5 ppm.
The point where Pixma really stands out is because our photo review created some of the best quality photos in our review. Regular 4 x 6 pictures are printed with 1.5 photos per minute. The PIXMA uses a special secondary pigment black ink cartridge-a type of ink that is more suitable for photo printing-the photos stand out in sharp detail and vivid colors.
In a five-cartridge system, the total ink cost of the PIXMA is slightly higher than the competitors who use only four cartridges, such as HP Officejet Pro, but the average cost per page still goes up to a reasonable 18 cents. The printer uses two different types of black ink: one for documents and another for photos; This creates superior photo prints and leaves you blank when you print black and white documents. If print quality is a priority especially for photos, it might be helpful to pay a little more for better prints. Canon also offers high-capacity ink options for all five cartridges, which will cost up to 15 cents per page.
Designed for home use, the PIXMA has a single primary paper tray with a capacity of 125 pages. A secondary tray that is mainly used for photo paper or open print holds an additional 20 pages. It doesn’t mean competing with Office printers that can publish 100 pages per day, but the paper tray is slightly larger than the 100-page average of most home printers. It also features automatic duplexing for double-sided printing and can print to a variety of media types, including printable CDs and DVDs.
The Pixma MG7700 can print great photos and documents, but there are a few features missing that you might expect to find in an all-in-one printer. Although scanning and copying using a flatbed scanner, there is no automatic document feeder to copy multiple pages and no integrated fax. A fax machine is not an essential feature for many home users, but you expect the most rated all-in-one printer to contain one. If you need to fax a few pages now and then, you can probably just do things with the browser and free online Fax service, but frequent faxing can be a real headache.
The Pixma features SD, SDHC and SDXC formats and memory card slots for SD cards, including Sony’s Memory Stick Duo and Memory stick Pro duo formats, and prints these great photos. However, there is no USB port. Therefore, you cannot print from a flash drive or external hard drive without switching from your laptop or desktop computer.
Aside from storage issues, the PIXMA is a wireless all-in-one printer, so you have several options for connecting all of your other devices. Both wired and wireless networks are available; Wi-Fi Direct allows you to connect to the printer without crossing the router. Smartphones and tablets can connect to the best Wi-Fi printers through Apple airprint, Google Cloud print, and Mopria certified apps. Canon also has its own application called Canon Prınt Inkjet/selphy. In addition to printing from your phone or tablet, the app lets you scan, copy and manage files through Canon’s own cloud storage service.
For greater convenience, the printer has built-in support for near Field Communications (NFC), which allows you to use any phone or device with an NFC chip to match the printer. It’s also easy to print from cameras with wireless PictBridge support.
The Canon Pixma MG7700 is covered by a standard year warranty. Support needs are provided by phone and email communication, but there is no live chat support on the Canon website and there is no social media support channel. However, there are several support materials available online, including a searchable guide, answers to frequently asked questions, and a troubleshooting guide. If everyone fails, there are also special support forums where you can ask questions and get answers from employees and other customers.
