Canon Pixma MG8250 Drivers Download & Printer Review– The Canon Pixma MG8250 tops the lineup of current Canon printers aimed at photo enthusiasts. It uses six ink cartridges to produce the highest quality photos, but it also has many other neat features, including duplex printing, negative scanning, and Wi-Fi support. This will set you back around £250 if purchased online.
Bold design
The MG8250 is a large black rectangular matte box with beautifully curved corners. The top of the unit is home to a large 8.8 cm color display. Unlike many of the latest models from manufacturers like Kodak and HP, this display is not a touch screen. Instead, Canon has added several touch buttons underneath that light up when you select a different function. It’s not as fast as a touchscreen, but it still makes this model’s menus easy to navigate.
Behind the cover on the front is a memory card reader that supports Compact Flash, SD, and Memory Stick formats. The cassette-style paper tray at the bottom holds up to 105 sheets. Canon also includes a plastic tray where you can attach a CD or DVD for direct disc printing.
Hassle-free setup
This model is quick to set up. You have to install the ink cartridges, load paper in the tray, and load the drivers onto your computer. There are on-screen animations to guide you through most of the process. The printer has USB and Ethernet ports and onboard Wi-Fi; You can select the connection method when installing the software on your computer.
Scan and copy
The MG8250 scanner is attractive because, in addition to allowing you to scan plain print and photo materials, it can also be used to scan transparencies and negatives. When you lift the scanner lid, you’ll find two small clips on either side that allow you to remove the white reflector and enter the slide mount.
The scanner’s resolution has also been increased to 4,800×9,600 pixels to make it more effective when working with slides and film negatives. Scan quality is impressive; colors are reproduced accurately and manage to do an excellent job of capturing the finer details in images.
Naturally, the scanner can also be used for photocopying. It is very quickly used for this purpose; it managed to pump up our black and white test page in just 12 seconds, whereas most competing models took about 18 seconds. The results are also excellent; the copy looks similar to the original.
Print speed and quality
If you use the printer frequently, this model’s fast print speed will appeal; it won’t keep you hanging around long before spitting out the results. It rattled off our 10-page black-and-white text document in just one minute and five seconds, which is one of the fastest speeds on an inkjet model. Previous generation Canon printers were slow at duplex printing, but this model doesn’t underperform in this area. It took just two minutes and 53 seconds to complete five two-sided pages of our text document.
It is also fast when it comes to color printing. Our 10-page graphics test took just three and six seconds, while our business presentation was completed in two minutes and five seconds.
Another good news is that this speed doesn’t sacrifice quality. Photo prints look beautiful, with rich, vibrant colors and an impressive level of detail reproduced even in darker areas of the image.
Our business presentations are also completely flawless, while the colors and detail on our test graphics are outstanding. It’s also no slouch for text printing. The text on our test document looked so sharp and precise that you could mistake it for output from a good quality laser printer, which is highly commendable.
Printing fee
The fly in the MG8250 ointment is its relatively high printing cost. The printer uses six separate ink cartridges, which helps it produce high-quality output, especially for photos. However, these cartridges are not cheap and result in higher-than-average printing costs. We calculate that a black and white page will set you back around 3.6p, while a color sheet costs around 8p. Both figures include 0.7p in paper costs but are still more expensive than their counterparts, apart from Lexmark’s S-series model, which is just as costly to run.
Conclusion
The MG8250 is far from the cheapest printer to buy or run, but it produces excellent print quality for text, graphics, and photos. Its print speeds are among the quickest in the business. Add an extraordinary arrangement of elements, and you have a definitive photograph printer.
